Mint and Used Collections and Dealer Stock, 1915 to 1993, with thousands of mostly used stamps of Australia starting with Roos in 4 stockbooks, 6 binders with mostly manilla stock sheets and 1 Scott Specialty album. The collections range from sparse to partial sets (usually lacking the higher denominations) and the stock has as many as 20 or more of each stamp in manilla stock sheets, these mostly from the 1960s to 80s. One binder contains MNH stamps, souvenir sheets and booklets in black mounts on home made pages from 1980 to 1993, with good face value easily over AU$150. Also includes one 1997 annual collection, complete with stamps (face value AU$46.85). We saw some Australian States and Australian Antarctic Territory as well. There is much duplication in this lot, but also opportunity for varieties, papers, watermarks and postmarks, as we did not check for these. 1900 1p Brown Olive and 2d Emerald Boer War Semi Official Set, both mint never hinged, fresh and with sheet margins, extremely fine. Geoff Kellow's Victoria handbook indicates that the sales of these were poor due to the huge (3sh) cost for only 3d of franking value, and only 4,500 sets were sold (with considerably fewer now remaining in mint, let alone VF+ condition). This set is most certainly one of the nicest sets in existence. Scott value given is for hinged only, and a considerable premium for NH should be added. (Image)

Barbados Parallel Mint and Used Collection to 1991, in 4 albums with lots of extras such as perforation and watermark varieties both old and modern, and frequent pairs, blocks and gutter pairs from 1970 on. The mint stamps appear to be mostly never hinged from about 1966. This collection is nearly complete as mint and only marginally less complete as used from 1897 to 1990. There are too many great items to list, but we noted Scott 81-89 (c.v. $362), 90/100 (no 97, still c.v. $283), 103-09 in both mint and used (c.v. $201), 127-39 mint and used (c.v. $617, plus a violet 3/- value unlisted in Scott but priced £75 in SG) and the list goes on and on. Then 10 presentation packs from Australia and 3 from St. Vincent. 1935 Silver Jubilee Complete Mint Omnibus and Different Design Sets, with flaws and extras. The Gibraltar 1sh has the S.G. listed “short extra flagstaff” flaw quoted at £550, while the Nigeria 1½d has an unlisted flaw “smoke from the chapel and right-hand turret”. A rarely seen stamp from British Forces in Egypt, Scott M9 (c.v. $350) is also included. We noted the Great Britain set is not included. Thousands of stamps from a 3-margin Penny Black and a set of Canada First Cents issue, to bird stamps of Pacific island nations are distributed in 5 stockbooks, 4 albums on loose album pages and in envelopes. Most material to the 1940s is generally used whereas material from the Elizabethan era is generally mint never hinged. A large part of the later material is related to a bird theme but we also saw orchids and other themes. Only one and a half stockbook page is Canada but it includes 7 Large Queens with a 2c on watermarked Bothwell paper (Unitrade 24a c.v. $550) and a mint Scott 91 (c.v. $250). We also saw mint never hinged Pakistan 1-19 (c.v. $207), Kuwait 26-36 (c.v. $120), a two-album set of London 1980 issues and two copies of a 1983 Commonwealth Day issues from 60 countries. The albums contain various commemorations. This collection includes, in order of importance, Bermuda, St Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. The Bermuda collection is the most extensive and the one with the most developed Victoria era section. Among the many better items, we noted Scott mint 18-26, with 25a, (c.v. $246), 55-69 (c.v. $142) and a nice section of George VI Keytypes including 3 different mint pound values (total c.v. $892). St. Lucia really starts with the Edward VII period and goes longest, to 1997. In addition to mint and used sets, it features a large number of “specimen” overprinted sets from 1983 on. Grenada is strongest in the early issues such as mint #s 39-48 (c.v. $140) and 91-112 (c.v. $147). Owner’s identification of early issues and varieties has not been checked by us.
