PLATE 6 - RED & BLACK MALTESE CROSS CANCELS ON A 1d BLACK; 26(?) Sept. 1840 front (with small parts of flaps) from Matlock Bath (fair cds; with "S" of "SE" discernible) to Arkwright & Co. in nearby Wirksworth with fine 4-margin 1d Black (BD; good to wide margins all round) tied by a very light black MX (matching the faint Matlock Bath cds and contrary to regulations at this date), but additionally tied by an orange-red MX - the latter presumably applied on arrival in Wirksworth to ensure the stamp could not be re-used.
