A RARE $5 RATE FRONT TO THE WIFE OF AN ESCAPED INTERNEE:4 Nov 1941 env. front from Hong Kong to Scotland franked with a single $5 adhesive paying the rate introduced in June 1940 with two strikes of the red "AIR MAIL VIA/CLIPPER & TRANSATLANTIC" h.s. This air service was from Hong Kong to San Francisco and on to N. York by Pan Am, then on by their F.A.M. 18 service to Lisbon. Finally by B.O.A.C. to Whitchurch near Bristol , or by sea. Note: The writer T.J.J. Fenwick was captured and interned by the Japanese, but was one of the few who escaped in 1942. (Image)
