Account of the Jubilee of Penny Postage, 1891 first edition (331 pages) signed by Sydney Beckley, one of the Honorary Secretaries to the Post Office Committee; and "The Penny Postage Jubilee and Philatelic History" by Phil, published in 1891, leather bound, binding faults. The first fine, and a unique association copy of this book. (2).

Instructions for Postal Duty to be performed in connection with the Uniform Penny Postage Jubilee Conversazione at South Kensington on Wednesday 2nd July 1890, 16 pages, the large South Kensington Penny Postage Jubilee c.d.s on the front cover, damp staining to the right edges of all pages; and "Celebration by the Corporation of the City of London of the Jubilee Anniversary of the Introduction of Inland Uniform Penny Postage at the Guildhall, London, 16th May 1890. Reports of the Controller of the London Postal Service and the Electrician", 13 pages, unusually with 2nd July large c.d.s and 1d Tube Post handstamps on the front, minor damp staining to the edge of the cover and first couple of pages, otherwise fine. Two scarce official publications. (2).

1890 (May 16-19) Covers and cards with Guildhall cancels, postally used items with steel datestamps (8) including a cover unusually franked 10d, 1841 letter reposted in 1890 franked 1d lilac (original 1d stamp sadly cut out), newspaper wrapper and postcards (2); and the rubber datestamp without code cancelled to order on postcards (6), one the unusual 3d card, one also with 2 July South Kensington c.d.s, another reposted at the 1966 G.B.P.S Guildhall Exhibition with similar type cancel. Gold wrapper band for the 1d Jubilee envelopes, applied to card, the lower portion of the wording cut out and "South Kensington Museum" written in, with proof impressions of the South Kensington large c.d.s applied at either side. 1890 Penny Postage Jubilee envelope insert cards postally used, on 3rd July 1890 from London to Weymouth franked 1d, or registered on the day of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee (22 June 1897) from Birmingham to Switzerland franked 3d with a message refering to the Jubilee, this card very unusual. 1890 Penny Postage Jubilee 1d envelopes and caricatures including unused envelope with the gold wrapper band, envelope used in 1906 with the insert card bearing a printed message from the County Fire Office Ltd, envelopes posted at the 1912 Jubilee Stamp Exhibition or in 1929 franked P.U.C ½d; Furness caricature envelopes with insert cards (3), one with "Presented with the Christmas Number of the Stamp Collectors Fortnightly, December 15th 1906" printed on the reverse, one insert card sent with the compliments of John Walker & Co, publishers of the envelope, bearing their cachet, also a faked use of this envelope to Italy; Elliot caricature envelopes (3, two with inserts), etc. (24).

1912 Ideal Stamp. The exceptional display collection on the design, production and printing of the "Ideal Stamp" by the J.P.S at the 1912 exhibition, with newspaper articles announcing the competition or showing the winning designs; rare essays and proofs for the issued design with blocks in red or black showing a lined background, red block of six with additional lines across the harp, similar but larger photographic essay in yellow, reduced size photographic proofs in the issued design in black and an imperf black proof with the issued stamp on piece signed by the engraver R.A Harrison; and many perf or imperf labels including complete sheets of 240 (5 sheets), imperf and perforated blocks of 80 and 108 in black, other multiples including control blocks, all colours including rare magenta and green (5), varieties with 1d black block of twelve perforated on the outer edges only, imperf between pairs, misplaced perfs, printed on both sides, dry prints, offsets, printed on gummed side, etc. Also leaflet requesting feedback on the design, stamp used on 1927 Brighton Philatelic Society dinner menu, 1913 Printex Co Ltd leaflet depicting the Ideal Stamp and Paris exhibition label, with examples of the Paris labels (6) and the Ideal Stamps printed for Paris (16, larger size than the original 1912 labels), later reproductions, etc. A fine and scarce lot, with some research notes, ex Kiddle collection. Ideal Stamp Picture Postcards, sold by the J.P.S at the 1912 exhibition, cards printed in various differing colours or on differing colours of card, unused (29) or used from the exhibition (7), the majority different, one card with a totally blank reverse (one of two recorded, a proof or printing error), also two cut down cards. A fine lot on pages, ex Kiddle collection. (36).

1d Mercury Stamp Essay, sheet of 120 printed by De La Rue & Co., in purple on silk, control A-23, the signatures of F.J Melville, E.D Bacon and Charles Nissen embroidered in the lower margin. A remarkable and unique sheet, just three sheets all in differing colours (and differing plate numbers) believed to have been printed on silk, framed.

1871 Entire letter from Calcutta to Mauritius "p. steamer via Bombay & Aden", franked 8a rose pair, backstamped "ADEN STEAMER POINT" c.d.s (Proud D6, recorded 1870-72) and at Calcutta and Mauritius. Horizontal fold with small central repair, an unusual use of this uncommon seriffed Aden datestamp.

Dthali. 1903 (Mar 16) Piece bearing QV On H.M.S overprint 1a carmine and 2a pale violet each cancelled "EXPERIMENTAL P.O / B-84" c.d.s, creasing to both stamps and 1a corner fault, nevertheless a very scarce use of Official stamps at Dthali with this first Experimental P.O c.d.s, only recorded March 15-April 19 1903. 1940-43 World War Two period covers including airgraph and an unused airgraph form with reverse instructions headed "Zanzibar Protectorate", 1940 Lourenco Marques to Zanzibar first flight (20 flown), horseshoe route covers to England franked 1/25, 2/50 or 3/75, or to the USA franked 2/- with British censorship in Bermuda, registered cover to USA via Leopoldville franked 6/30, cover to Argentina franked 2/-, cover from Switzerland to Zanzibar, etc. Also a 1932 cover to England flown by Imperial Airways from Dodoma (delayed 2 days by forced landing in a sand storm south of Wadi Halfa), and 1935 cover from Kampala to Zanzibar franked 2/95. 1946-64 Covers and cards, the interesting collection on pages, various rates and destinations, including 1947 registered cover to China, registered cover franked 4/- to USA with Weti registration handstamp, 1948 cover from Chake Chake, cover to USA with scarce "BY AIR TO LONDON ONLY" (not recorded by Proud), air letters to Canada with scarce "PAR AVION ZANZIBAR A LONDON" (Proud AM8, subsequently crossed out) or similar endorsement, several pilot signed covers, 1961 and 1964 covers to Europe with oval framed or violet boxed "O.A.T / F.S", 1964 (Jan 27) cover to Kenya with 20c pair both with the Sultan's portrait crossed through in pen, 1964 (Feb 11) air letter to Pemba with 15c handstamped "JAMHURI 1964" and a pen cross through the Sultan's portrait, etc. Also a few incoming covers with 1947 registered cover from Yugoslavia, and 1954 commercial cover from Cyprus with 1½p pair + 9p cancelled "APOSTOLOS ANDREAS / RURAL / POSTAL / SERVICE". 1934 Vignette die proof depicting a turtle on a map of Ascension and the head of King George V, in black on glazed wove paper. A fine and scarce De La Rue die proof, virtually identical to the vignette adopted for the 1d, 2d, 8d and 2/6 values but without the lines of longitude and latitude and the upper latitude figure incorrectly shown as 8/55'S (instead of 7/55'S), 62x69mm.
