BIRMINGHAM RIOTS; Quartet with July 1791 EL to Cartmel, Lancashire ex Birmingham written just after the 'King & Queen Riots' of 14-16 July with contents ....at night, Mr Hutton's, a near neighbour to me, the windows broke and the greatest part of the valuable furniture destroyed.....I was up three nights, so harassed and fatigued that we was very ill....12 of the rioters were escorted by a party of the light horse to Warwick Gaol'., Oct. 1816 EL to Ludlow ex Birmingham with extensive comments on the Birmingham riot of the previous day, 1839 env. to Birmingham ex London with "[CROWN]/FREE" d.s. on front addressed to Captain Walpole of the Rifle Brigade to quell the Chartist Riots commenced two days prior and Sep. 1840 EL to Birmingham ex Coventry franked 1d Black (variable margins) tied by Red MX enclosing compensation cheques from the treasurer of Warwickshire for riot damage.
