1856 cover to Hampshire endorsed "By the Royal Charter May 22" with Campbell & Fergusson 3d SG 31c pair (large vertical margins) cancelled with BN '5' of 'BALLARAT' (crowned-oval b/s), superb 'AUSTRALIAN/PAID/LIVERPOOL/ AU12/*56D/=PACKET=' cds transit plus '1d' h/s & London cds all in red on the face, Portsmouth arrival b/s, minor blemishes.

1858 cover to Bedfordshire with rare & superb franking of Woodblocks 6d orange Rouletted 7-9 at the GPO SG 53b horizontal pair (rouletted vertically, the L/H stamp being enormous) tied by neat BN '1' of Melbourne (b/s), 'AMPTHILL' arrival b/s in blue, docketing on the address panel has been removed. RPSofL (1942) and RPSofV (2018) Certificates. [NB: the stamps have been lifted & hinged in place]

1901 (May) stampless Jolley PPC endorsed "Feld-Post" to Germany with message in German headed "12 V 01", 'KAIS DEUTSCHE/MARINE-SCHIFFSPOST/No 46/21.5.01' datestamp used aboard SMS Hansa & superb 'OBERLAGIEWNIK' arrival cds. [Naval ships from various countries came to Melbourne for the official Opening of Parliament on 9th May 1901. Hansa departed Chinese waters 31.3.1901, returning 19.6.1901. The message states the trip China-Melbourne took four weeks]

[The Waranga Dam was completed in 1909 & the State Rivers & Water Supply Commission was charged with making irrigated land available for orchards. No 1 Settlement was at Shepparton East. No 2 was at Orrvale where an RO opened 1.10.1915; PO 7.8.1918; closed 1.1.1920 - no postmark recorded] The illustration is above Lot 599.
