Barbados. Barbados: Moses Tolanto unredeemed Farthing ND, in copper; size: 21.75mm; weight: 4.5g. Obverse: bale with initials "M.T" at top; legend around "Moses Tolanto Barbados". Reverse: barrel at center with initials "MT" at top; legend around "Freedom Without Slavery "; rosette at base. Lacking slash-marks, this is a scarce example of an unredeemed token. Moses Tolano (1814-1852; surname misspelled on token) was a Sephardic Jew operating the business on 33 Swan Street, Bridgetown; he issued these tokens for redemption at his shop at the time of emancipation (1834).
