DISASTER MAIL: 1864 envelope from Salisbury bearing 6d lilac (JA) adhesive tied by numeral, endorsed ''Australian mail'' carried by ''S.S. Candia'' which failed with engine troubles, face bearing boxed Ship Letter Inwards Free boxed h/s for 15 FE 1854, backstamped by Shaftsbury, Salisbury and London markings, fine. ? ? The Candia bound from Suez to Galle (Ceylon) with the Southampton mails failed with engine troubles was towed back towards Galle by the ''Emeu'' and the mail was transferred to the ''Northam''.
