1854 to GB with BN '35' on cut-to-shape 4d & mss "Hamilton 22 Dec" (stated to be Ex Purves), 1854 stampless from London, 1856 Hobart-Launceston with 'PRE-PAID' cds in red, 1860 & 1865 with Imperf 6d & BN '52' or superb '75', 1867 Hobart-Launceston mourning cover with Perf 10 4d, 1867 Hobart-Victoria with Perf 10 6d, 1869 mourning cover to GB with Perf 12 4d & 6d (in Private Contract Period) tied by BN '77' of Ross, 1870 with superb BN '63' plus private 'BOURNBANK/...' & postmaster's 'N NORFOLK' h/s (stamps removed), 1890 apparently commercial to GB with 6d Platypus, 1896 Registration Envelope to GB with 'd/2½' on 9d pair, Pictorial frankings with cds of 'BEACONSFIELD', 'LEFROY', 'LINDA', 'LOTTAH' x2, 'MOUNT DUNDAS' & 'ULVERSTONE' in blue, two OHMS with 'ONE PENNY' on 2d perf 'T', etc, plus a group of Postal Sttaionery including a very fine 2d+½d STO Envelope with embossed 'ET TENEO ET TENEOR' on the flap, condition rather mixed but excellent value at the estimate.

1855 (June) part town-letter to "FC Smith/Postmaster General/Hobarton" with exceptional franking of Couriers 1d pale blue SG 3 - an enormous example with margins good to huge & almost complete 'Printed by H & C Bes[t]' Imprint, Cat £1300++ x6+ on cover - irregularly cancelled with a light strike of the 'PRE-PAID' datestamp of Hobart in red overstruck with & tied by very fine First Allocation BN '61', minor soiling. Ex Koichi Sato, Tatiana and Trevor Hiscock. RPSofV Certificate (2016).
Extensive docketing on both sides: on the top-flap "Referred to Mr Young for his information"; partial notation within indicating the sender was "the prisoner Samuel" & that the letter was "detained in the accts office for some time..." & signed "Thos Barnard/Postmaster/14 6 55"; and on the side-flap "requested to be returned".
Manuscript cancellations on Chalons including various numerals, cross-hatching, "Hamilton" & "Reg letter/6 6 67", better stamps including Large Star 1d 2d pair & 4d pair, No Wmk 2d pair & Pelure Paper 1d, despite faults many are attractive. A scarce & desirable lot.

Carton with extensive & often heavily duplicated array of Second Allocation Numerals including some on Pictorials, and cds on Pictorials, no rated items noted but lots of very fine strikes; also a batch of 1880s letter bills with a few better cds including 'JERUSALEM', 'LOWER BROADMARSH' & 'SPRING-HILL', a handful of Tatts covers, and 'The Pictorial Stamps of Tasmania' by Keith Lancaster.

Douglas River: c.1915 manuscript "Douglas/River" (Receiving Office period) on KGV 1d red with Saddle on Emu variety ACSC #71(1)e. RO 13.5.1901; PO 6.3.1927; closed 11.9.1968. Rated RRRRR: John Hardinge records one 1915 dated example only. [Coalmining; 5km north of Bicheno]
Torquay: Manuscript "Registered Torquay/30 6 55" on Couriers Plate II Worn Impression 4d SG 12 horizontal strip of 5 [19-23] (a rare multiple), almost full margins except where a little shaved at the base, the third unit stained. A remarkable and rare multiple. Ex Lew Viney - illustrated on the front cover - sold in Switzerland in 1980 for SFr6500; acquired from a Melbourne auction in 1991 for $1925.
Waterloo Point: Manuscript "58"-in-cross-hatching on very fine Courier 4d SG 8 (good even margins, Cat £450). Rated R. [Superior to David McNamee's two examples, on both of which the numeral looked more like "56"]

1853 CouriersAll Lines Clear & Distinct 1d pale blue SG 1, margins good to large with complete outer framelines, neatly cancelled clear of the Queen's face, Cat £1500. A very attractive 'Number One'.
1853 CouriersAll Lines Clear & Distinct 1d blue SG 2 on unusually thin almost Pelure Paper (unlisted as such), margins close to good, small closed scissor-cut at upper-left, unused, Cat £12,000.

1853 Couriers 4d orange group of printings & shades SG 7-12, all cut-square with full to virtually full margins, numeral cancels including '47' (superb), '59', '60', '61', '64' & '68', Cat £3375 minimum.
1853 Couriers Reprints 1d & 2d Plate I complete sheets of 24 (6x4) each with imprints at L/L & L/R printed from the defaced plates & Perf 11½ (in which form they were never issued), affixed to backing cards. Very scarce in this format.
1855 Large Star 1d carmine with very fine BN '61', 2d green (shades) x5 (one on piece with 4d), 4d blue (shades) x27 one apparently unused, and Unissued 6d lilac pair (faults as always), condition variable but many are fine to very fine &/or attractive, Cat £8000+ (not including the apparently unused 4d, Cat £5500).

1855 Large Star 1d carmine SG 14, just shaved at upper-left but with fragments of three adjoining units; 2d green SG 16; 4d deep blue & 4d blue (superb) SG 17 & 18; fine to superb with full margins; plus Unissued 6d dull lilac, close even margins, unused & creased as always; Cat £2350.
1856-57 No WatermarkPelure Paper 1d deep red-brown SG 24 horizontal pair, virtually full margins (just touched at the base) with a fragment of the adjoining unit at left, '68' cancels of Hobart, Cat £1500+. A rare multiple.
1857-67 Double-Lined Numeral Watermarks range with 1d x21 including three unused, 2d x13 including slate-green unused x2, yellow-green pair & yellow-green with Two Large Pre-Printing Paper Folds, and 4d x37 including one unused & a strip of 3, condition variable but generally attractive & many with full margins, some Barred Numeral cancels, Cat £4000+.
