Neat strike of cds with manuscript "10" day and matching "25" cent rating on 1839 folded letter to Milan N.Y., contents concern running a hotel in Monticello and a store in St. Marks, also "the labor being all performed by black slaves, I have seen five hundred slaves at work in one field…There is continual war here with the Indians. I have been in three battles and in one there was three men shot down by my side…"; light toning and soiling, F.-V.F.
