Seychelles: The French Postal Agency: 1864 (Dec.) envelope to Mme. Marie Cordier in Paris with enclosed eight page letter to her sister from AimŽe Dominjod headed “MahŽ le 20 (small portion missing) bre 1864”, the cover endorsed “Suez/Paqt. franais” and bearing Mauritius 4d. and 1s. pen-cancelled, having been privately carried, probably to Bombay, where the adhesives were unaccepted, the 1s. additionally tied by handstruck “18”(dŽcimes) with “POSS.AN.V.SUEZ.PAQ.F/15/DEC/64/2 MARS 2” octagonal datestamp in red below, showing framed “INDIA UNPAID” and marked “non double” at left, having been forwarded via Aden with “ADEN-STR.-POINT/1 DE/64” single arc and Paris Dec. 16 arrival on reverse. Seychelles: The French Postal Agency: 1865 stampless entire to Mme. Marie Cordier in Paris showing “COL.F.V.SUEZ PAQ. F/19/JANV/65” c.d.s., with lengthy interesting letter from AimŽe Dominjod her sister headed “MahŽ le 20 janvier 1865”, endorsed “Par Suez” and charged “6” (dŽcimes) for unpaid mail, with, on the reverse, Marseille and Marseille ˆ Lyon Dec. 15 transit and Neuilly next day arrival datestamps. Weiss notes “Covers through the French Postal Agency were cancelled with markings reading “Col Fr” (Colonie Franaise). Generally, they were cancelled the date the ship sailed, so a “Col Fr” marking dated at the Seychelles must be from this office. About twelve covers are known which were posted from MahŽ through this Agency”. Photo.
