PETER WILLIAMSON's EDINBURGH LOCAL POST - CIRCULAR UNDATED "*E. PENNY POST NOT PAID"; 29 July 1783 EL (slight toning of flap; small flap corner repair by seal) from the Edinburgh "Excise Office" (ref. a law suit) to a local Edinburgh lawyer with a very fine (especially for this) circular undated Peter Williamson "*E. PENNY POST NOT PAID" charge-mark across the join on the reverse. A significant usage showing that the Edinburgh establishment regularly used the 'unofficial' Williamson Post. (Image)

BOXED "1" CHARGE-MARK; 1797-1839 covers mainly sent between these two places (that are only 2 miles apart) at 1d rates (when the minimum for the General Post was 3d or more); 1797 EL ex Prinlaws with "DYSART" charged 1d to Kirkcaldy, similar 1805 EL ex Dysart, 1810/1 trio with mainly v. fine scarce circular "DYSART/424/E" mileages to Kirkcaldy prepaid 1d (2) or charged 2d, 1820/1 pair with different sizes of the "KIRKCALDY/422 - E" mark and charged 1d each, 1828/31 EL/E ex London via Edinr. to "Barnslee, Kirkcaldy" with "KIRKCALDY/PENNY POST" and rare usage of the boxed "1" mark as a local 1d-rate charge-mark or locally (ex Gallatown?) charged 1d with boxed "2" RH mark on reverse, and fine 1837/9 Es pair ex Dysart with v. fine boxed "PAID at/KIRKCALDY" in different shades of red.
