RHODESIA: 1895 Whitfield-King Philatelic Registered cover addressed to Ipswich, bearing, 8d. on 1s. grey-brown, 4d. on 6d. ultramarine and ½d. on 6d. ultramarine (lower marginal), provisionals, individually tied by 'SALISBURY MASHONALAND' cds dated JU.16 95, lot also includes 4d. Registered Envelope, with same addressee but in a different hand, bearing 1893 2s.6d. lilac SG 7, (paying the 6d. letter rate to England per ½oz, plus 4d. reg fee, the cover would have therefore originally weighed 4oz,) tied by the same postmark, which indicates that this envelope had carried the philatelic cover along with potential others. Reverse bearing two BSAC wax seals, 'REGISTERED CAPE TOWN' h/s dated JY 3, and 'IPSWICH' arrival mark dated JY 20 95. Slight creasing to philatelic cover barely detracts, and some light foxing to 4d. registered envelope. An unmissable opportunity to acquire such scarce and philatelically important covers.
