TPO 2: UP: 'UP/TRAVELLING/POST OFFICE/JA 14 71/VICTORIA/MG2' (LRD) largely very fine b/s on cover endorsed "Tender for shafting" from Ballaarat (superb duplex) to "Pioneer Crushing Works/Long Gully/Sandhurst" with 'LONG-GULLY' arrival b/s. Rated RRRR: the latest of 4 covers recorded. [Roy Holland's similar cover sold for £384]
- TPO 2 - DOWN: large octagon 'DOWN/TRAVELLING/POST OFFICE/JY 20 65/VICTORIA/MG2' (ERD) largely very fine b/s on entire headed "Werribee Park/Wyndham" & signed "pr Robert Chirnside/Robert Mill", Laureates 4d with BN '166'. Rated RRRR: the earliest of 5 covers recorded.
TPO 3: DOWN: Large Octagon 'DOWN/TRAVELLING/POST OFFICE/MY 1 72/VICTORIA/MG3' b/s on cover to Kyneton with DLR 2d (faults) tied by fine strike of the rare BN '208' (rated RRRR) & 'CARLSRUHE' cds, opened-out for display & rebacked. Rated RRRR: five covers recorded. Ex Roy Holland: sold for $1514 (2013).
TPO 4:UP: Large Oval 'UP/TRAVELLING/POST OFFICE/AP 25 68/VICTORIA/MG4' very fine b/s on cover to ".../police/ Heathcote/Camp" with Laureates 2d (faults) tied poor '366' of 'EDDINGTON' (very fine b/s), transits of 'MALDON' & 'KYNETON' to where missent, then redirected via 'CASTLEMAINE' & 'MALDON' with 'HEATHCOTE' arrival b/s. Rated RRR: ten covers recorded.
- TPO 4 - UP: Second Large 'T.P.O./ 4 '-in-Bars (flat 'P' & 3 bars on each side of '4') four very fine strikes on Astley ½d pink x4 plus 'UP TRAIN/MG4/SE5/95/...' cds on cover to Clifton Hill (poor b/s), horizontal fold & stained on the reverse. Rated RRRRR: the only examples recorded on cover.
TPO 4: UP: 'TPO 4/UP 15JE16/VICTORIA' largely very fine strike tying KGV 1d red to cover to England, 'CREWE STATION' arrival b/s, light even soiling. Rated RRRRR, being the earlier of only two recorded examples on cover. Ex Les Molnar: sold for $366.
TPO 5 DOWN: '[DOWN T]RAIN/[MG5]/---/[VICT]ORIA - TP[O]/ 5 ' duplex very fine strike on 2d violet. Rated RRRRR: only three examples recorded, all on stamps.
TPO 7- DOWN: Octagon 'DOWN TRAIN/ MG7 /DE19/81/VICTORIA' (ERD) largely very fine strike on 1d Postal Card with advice for Brooks Robinson & Co on the reverse to Stawell, aged but presentable. Rated RRRR: the earliest of only five recorded covers. Ex Roy Holland, in a mixed lot.
TPO 7Double-Circle Relief 'GT STHRN UP TRAIN/JA16/06' very fine strike on 1d pink. Rated RRR++: at page 150 Les Molnar states "No complete strikes have been recorded". It is some coincidence that his composite illustration is also dated JA16/06.
TPO 9DOWN: 'T.P.O. 9/DOWN 23DE09/VICTORIA' largely very fine strike on 1d on Semco real photo PPC ('Savings Bank, Warragul') to "Kia-Ora/Heath Hill". Rated RRRR. only four covers recorded.
- TPO 11 - UP: manuscript "TPO No 11" in indelible pencil across 1d pink x5 on Tatts cover to Hobart, deplorable cancels that may include an 'R'-in-Circle h/s, Melbourne transit b/s. Rated RRRRR: the only TPO cover recorded with a manuscript cancellation. Ex Roy Holland: sold for £252. [Roy Holland believed this marking was applied on the train, & this was echoed in the London catalogue. However, it is in a very distinctive hand, matching many other non-TPO examples we have seen, & was almost certainly applied at the GPO, where it was the practice to identify the origin of registered mail that was not clearly cancelled] The illustration is above Lot 899.
TPO 12- UP: Duplex 'UP TRAIN/ MG12 /JL16/83/VICTORIA - TPO/12' superb cancel on 1d Postal Card Benalla- Melbourne (b/s), the card aged with overall discolouration & repaired tear at the base but presentable. Rated RRRRR: only one other example on cover recorded. Ex Tony Rigo de Righi & Roy Holland: sold for £300.

TPO 13- DOWN: 'T.P.O. 13/DOWN 7JE13/VICTORIA' largely superb strike on Kangaroo ½d Wrapper to Sydney. Rated RRRRR: the only example recorded on cover. Absent from Roy Holland and Les Molnar's collections.
TPO 14- UP: 'T.P.O. 14/UP 4MY28/VICTORIA' (LRD) superb strike on KGV 1½d red punctured 'OS'. Rated RRR: only 10 stamps and no covers recorded. Ex Les Molnar. [With superb large-part '.../DOWN 23AP15/...' on KGV 1d red cutout]
TPO 17: Mail Bag Seal 'UP TRAIN/ No [crown] 17 /VICTORIA' superb strike on ½d orange Wrapper to Melbourne. Rated RRRRR: the only example recorded & the only example known of any such Victorian TPO marking. A famous cover. Ex Roy Holland: sold for £1020.
TPOs 20 & 21: Manuscript cancellations in indelible pencil comprising "TPO/Down/[part-date]", "D Train/21.8.94" & "Up Train/20.4.94" each on Stamp Duty 2d violet. Ex JRW Purves and Roy Holland: sold for £180.
The Melbourne-Port Albert Line was completed by January 1892 but Molnar & Waugh at page 147 state TPO services didn't commence until 1898. However, by mid-1894 de facto TPO 20 & 21 services were operating, using mss markings. Les Molnar states #20 & 21 were shelved because of belt-tightening during the catastrophic Depression of the mid-1890s.
