2: 'UP TRAIN/M.G.2/SE15/87/VICTORIA' cds on 1d Postal Card offering bullocks for sale from "Sutherland Creek" to Geelong, a few aging marks at edges. Sutherlands Creek is about 15km N of Geelong on the Ballarat Line via Geelong (before the direct line opened in 1890); the service to Geelong was designated UP as it continued on to Melbourne; scarce 'intermediate' usage.
3: vertical-oval 'UP/TRAVELLING/POST OFFICE/AU 12 67/VICTORIA/MG3' (original style with month before day) very fine b/s on cover from Sandhurst to Geelong, small ink-blot on the face.
3: Up Train Type 2 (duplex) superb strike of JY6/97 on stampless 'ON HEALTH BUSINESS ONLY' lettersheet (advising of a smallpox outbreak), 'KYNETON' transit & light 'METCALFE' arrival b/s. Rated RRR on cover in the second period of use. An excellent & most unusual usage on OHMS Free Postal Stationery.
3: 'DOWN TRAIN/M.G.3/SE30/87/VICTORIA' octagonal d/s transit on circular with Reading 1d tied 'MAFFRA/SE29/8[7]/VICTORIA-477' duplex in blue and 'METCALFE/OC1/87/VICTORIA' arrival cds on face. Rated RR. Used on Bendigo Line.
4: 'DOWN TRAIN/GM4/JN6/83/VICTORIA' octagonal b/s ('GM' inscription error; LRD) on QV 1d violet postal card with 'DAYLESFORD/6JE/83/VICTORIA-173' duplex to Sandhurst, three closed spike holes. Rated RRR. [Melbourne-Bendigo Line; latest known date of the ten 'covers' recorded]
4: 'DOWN/TRAVELLING/POST OFFICE/SE 2 67/VICTORIA/MG4' large octagon (original style with month before day) largely very fine b/s on cover with 2d tied by BN '38' of 'ELPHINSTONE' (cds alongside), Sandhurst transit & oval 'WHITE HILLS' arrival b/s, the TPO d/s slightly affected by a minor opening fault.
6: 'DOWN TRAIN/M.G.6/SE25/85/VICTORIA' 22mm octagon (LRD) cancelling 1d Postal Card from "Indigo Mills" (Chiltern) to Rutherglen, 'UP TRAIN/M.G.12/SE26/85/VICTORIA' b/s and 'SPRINGHURST' transit of same day, minor blemishes. Rated RR. Wodonga Line; collected by the evening mail sorting van 'down' to Wodonga, and then carried by the next morning's train 'up' to Melbourne as far as Springhurst where transfered to the Wahgunyah branch line to Rutherglen (for further explanation see Molnar & Waugh p71-72; this item confirms their analysis).
11: 'T.P.O.11/UP-8FE09/VICTORIA' cds on 1d on PPC ('A Bend In The Road Hepburn, Daylesford') from "Springs, Hepburn, Daylesford" to Prahran, minor bend & small closed tear at U/L. Rated RRR. Ballarat Line.
13: Down Train Type 1 (22mm Octagon) two very fine cancels of MY29/95 on uprated 1d orange Stamped To Order Envelope with Burrell Watkinson & Co (Melbourne) imprint in blue at U/L. Rated RRRR: the latest of only five covers recorded.
15: Down Train Type 1 (Octagon) largely very fine b/s of JE17/02 on mourning cover from Scotland with superb 'BARRHILL/AYRSHIRE' cds, to "Metung/Gippsland Lakes" with Bairnsdale transit & 'METUNG' arrival b/s, redirected to Hawthorn, minor flap fault. Rated RRRR: seven covers recorded.
16: 'DOWN TRAIN/M.G.16/JA14/05/VICTORIA' octagonal d/s on 1d on PPC ('Warragul from Top of Victoria St') to Middle Park, couple of minor blemishes. Rated RR. Gippsland Line: collected by the evening mail sorting van from Melbourne 'down' to Traralgon, and then carried to Melbourne by the next morning's up train.
E: 'TPO E/UP 11FE13/VICTORIA' WWW #60 unusually complete strike on 1d pink. Rated RR. [WWW allocated this to the English Mail TPO. However, Les Molnar speculates that this may be 'E' for Emergency & that it was used as a TPO relief cancel. No covers are recorded so, at the moment, this remains intriguing speculation]
