LETTERCARDS: 1924 'THREE/HALFPENCE' on KGV 2d red with Zoo, Adelaide, SA view ACSC LC54 (142c) but with Perforations Intruding Into View at Right and additionally with the Surcharge Slightly Misplaced to Left, used from "Caulfield, Jan 31-24" with 'MALVERN/VIC' cds, small repaired spike-hole on face, Cat $200 for normal. The ACSC does not list any mis-perforations for this issue, and the item does not qualify as a listed misplaced surcharge (requiring the whole of one letter to be outside the stamp impression); however, comparison with other cards shows that the alignment between the view and the stamp impression on this item is not standard, and that this has contributed to both 'varieties'. A technically-interesting piece.

POSTAL CARDS: 1911 Four-Line Heading HG 17 with 'ADDRESS' below 'F AUST', three examples hand-illustrated in India ink & signed "Saville H Sheard" comprising 1) a young girl with parasol; 2) a young woman with large ruffled colour; and 3) a glamorous older woman with absurdly large hat & ridiculously small parasol; toning/aging on the address-sides caused by the acidic paper of the album in which they were originally stored but the second of them is only a little affected. Believed to be the only recorded hand-illustrated examples of the so-called "artist card", as discussed in Hugh Campbell's 'Queensland Postal History' at pp269-270. Alan Griffiths is silent on this subject but does note that HG 17 was used for the famous Esperanto cards.
