1916-1922 KGV 1d Red 'Star' without 'POSTAGE' Die I ACSC ES28 with Defective Embossing at Top, for Civil Service Stores with imprint on back flap above 'Made in USA' at L/L, used with Sydney 'JY5/1916' machine cancel, a couple of very minor blemishes. Very early: the ACSC states "It is believed that the first orders ... were on 27 June 1916, to New South Wales and Victoria"; this is possibly the earliest recorded use. The US-manufactured envelope clearly shows that clients provided their own stationery to the Post Office for impressing with stamp indicia.
