Homewood (BM 1889-1924) fair-good A-type cds (ring complete) 4 AU 20 on GV 1½d red-brown lettercard (2 file holes). Of the office name, "HOM-" is clear but only the tops of the other letters are present. Charged postage due as rate rose to 2d from 29 JL 1920. With "TO PAY 1d ..." circular h/s & 1d P Due added & canc undated Wellington A-type cds. Fine, apart from the punch holes. Very scarce d/s.

Port Ahuriri (NA 1903-1953), to Ahuriri), fine complete 25mm C-type cds 17 JL 20 on 1d Victory on picture side of PPC to Canada. Fine.

1903 reg'd cover to Holland, franked 5d Otira p11 & 1½d Boer War p11, canc Palmerston North A-type cds 23 OC 03 (blue pencil line over 1½d). Receipt b/s 22 NOV. Unusual franking combination, nice cond.

1905 glamour PPC ex Germany, posted Hamburg 5.4.05 with 10pf Germania. Charged postage due (fine boxed violet h/s "T12½c"). Addressed to "Wellington" but no country name! Two NZ P Dues added: 1899 2d & 1904 ½d p11, canc undated Wellington A-type cds with pencilled m/s initials. M/s "To call C.P.O." Two small edge tears, otherwise fine. Unusual combination of Due stamps.

1909 LOOSE LETTER: 8 Feb 1909 p/c ex Newcastle NSW to Ponsonby, Auckland, & readdressed to Gisborne. Boxed LOOSE LETTER cachet, 1d (redirection fee?) added & cancelled Gisborne 17 February.

1911 Unfranked OHMS local Wellington (17 July) cover to Registrar of Electors, bearing TO PAY/1D/DOUBLE DEFICIENCY POSTAGE black h/s & 1d postage due (as official mail was not charged the 1d fine, only 1d postage). Minor ageing.

1915 WWI stampless OAS PPC (Alexandria, Egypt scene) to NZ, franked good/fine complete boxed rubber h/s (pink) "Military Forces / Franked / Y.M.C.A. (N.Z)" & facsimile signature, overcancelled by "New Zealand Stationary A.P.O. No. 1" cds (unclear at base) 11-DE-15. Message headed "Zeitoun Camp, Egypt". Partial vert crease. Scarce h/s.

1915 WWI stampless OAS cover to NZ, franked almost complete oval rubber h/s "Military Infections Hospital / Shubra, Cairo", dated "18/9/15", & with Cairo cds 18.IX.15. Ink smudge on address. Opening tear, scarce h/s (hospital closed July 1916).

1915 WWI stampless OAS cover (rather worn & with light toning) to NZ, franked good strike of large oval rubber h/s (violet) "Australian & New Zealand Convalescent Hospital / G.R. Norton, Major" & with Hilwan cds 20.IX.15, transit cds Port Taufiq, & Featherston NZ receipt cds 9 NO 15. Some modern ink notation on back. From a wounded NZ soldier.

1915 WWI stampless OAS PPC (Egyptian scene) to NZ. Franked fine circular h/s (violet) "Passed By Censor / Indian Expeditionary Force / 91" & with Dunedin NZ receipt cds 26 OC 15. Fine. This h/s was used on mail from No. 1 NZ General Hospital, Port Said, Egypt.

1915 WWI stampless OAS PPC (Malta scene) to NZ, canc fine "SLIEMA B.O. MALTA" cds 28 AU 15, with message from NZ wounded soldier at St Patrick's Hospital, Tal-Balal, Malta. Fine.

1915 WWI "Egyptian Army Hospital / Pont de Koubbeh" oval rubber h/s (blue), fine strike on stampless OAS PPC to NZ, with fair-good "New Zealand Military Post Office / Base Details" cds 10.VIII.15 over the top. This hospital became the NZEF General Hospital around this time. Fine.

1915 WWI "N.Z. Military Post Office / Expeditionary Force" large oval rubber d/s, part strike in violet (NZ - / EXPEDITIONARY FORC-) on Egypt 4m on fine half-size PPC (Nile scene), Egypt to NZ. This d/s used provisionally 11-19 Jan 1915 by NZ Mounted Rifles Brigade in Egypt (following initial use on HMNZ Transport No. 8 "Star of India" during voyage from NZ). Very scarce item.

1916 WWI bedraggled, very worn & soiled cover from NZ, franked 3 x ½d GV (1 only remnant), canc Terrace End cds 14 FE 16. To NZ soldier on active service who could not be found. Many endorsements incl, on front, h/s "NOT / A.G.H OR AUX" (Australian General Hospital) & light cds "New Zealand Rifle Brigade Post Office" 27-MR-16. B/s x 5 (all in Egypt) incl 2 (1 clear) of skeleton cds "ARMY POST OFFICE SZ4" (British APO at Ismailia) 28 MR 16 & "A.I.F. INTER. BASE P.O. CAIRO" cds 30-MR-16 & 11-JU-16. Open 3 sides. Authentically horrible condition but full of character.

1916 WWI worn, soiled & much readdressed cover to NZ soldier "J.C.M. Whittaker, 5th Platoon, B coy, 4th Battalion, N.Z.R.. (rifle) Brigade, Rangiotu Military Camp" (within NZ). Franked GV ½d & 1d Dominion, canc patchy Claremont (TU 1882-1919) A-type cds 11 FE 16. The cover followed him to Egypt & then France. Endorsements (many) incl "Govt. Hosp., Suez." B/s (3) incl good "A.I.F. INTER. BASE P.O. / CAIRO" cds 6-AP-16. Two matt adhesive tape "repairs" on back.

1916 WWI stampless OAS PPC (Port Tewfiek view) ex Egypt to NZ, franked quite partial strike of double-framed rectangular rubber d/s (violet) "N.Z. Expeditionary Force / Field Ambulance" 23 MAR 1916, overcancelled by "New Zealand Rife Brigade Field Post Office" cds 31-MR-16 & triangular crowned censor h/s No. 3816 (red). Very slight cut down at left edge, otherwise fine. Although very partial, this is a rare frank.

1916 WWI stampless OAS PPC (camel cleaning in the Nile) to NZ, franked good strike (partly unclear) of oval rubber h/s (red) "MILITARY RECREATION / FREE / E" with m/s signature "J.L. Hay" in centre. With Cairo cds 28.II.16 ("II" for February). Ex military recreation club in Ezbekiah Gardens, Cairo. Fine. Scarce h/s.

1916 WWI stampless OAS "Field Service Post Card" with pencilled formula message (from former soldier patient?), addressed to "Sister Booth, "Aotea" Convalescent Hospital, Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt". Heliopolis civil cds 26 Feb 16. This NZ-financed hospital was open Oct 1915-July 1919. Fine cond. A rare survivor.

1916 WWI stampless OAS PPC (sphinx & pyramids) Egypt to NZ, franked fine virtually complete circular rubber h/s (grey) "Aotea Convalescent Home / Heliopolis, Cairo / Free" with m/s initials "HWC Capt." in centre. Also m/s "Censored H.W. Christie, Capt." Overinked Heliopolis cds 11.1.16 at side. Scarce frank. Fine.
