1852 pre stamp entire, letter dated 4 Sept 1852, Lyttelton, sent by James Edward Fitzgerald & readdressed to near Birmingham, inscribed "per Pauline to Sydney Sept 20 1852". Postal markings incl good "(crown) "PAID AT PORT VICTORIA" in red, "PORT VICTORIA SP 21 1852" unframed cds in red, "OXFORD MR 19 1853" (x 2) in green, "BIRMINGHAM MR 19 1853", "FB MB" (?) circular h/s. Transcription of letter enclosed. Fitzgerald was a prominent early settler who became superintendent of Canterbury at this time but the letter talks mainly of his early attempts at cattle farming.
