WORLD WAR I: 1915 British 'ON ACTIVE SERVICE' Honour Envelope to Victoria with '1ST AUST DIV FIELD P[O]/-4SE15' cds used on Gallipoli Peninsula, couple of very minor blemishes. [Enclosed letter signed "Donald C Stewart 378, 2nd Field Co Engns, 4th Section, AIF" includes "By most of the early reports of the war you will have noticed that the Turks cannot shoot but I can assure you that this is not exactly true at any rate it does not apply to their snipers because if any man puts his head above the parapet in the day time it is very seldom that he tells you what he saw (for the very good reason, death)"!]

WORLD WAR I: 1915 British 'ON ACTIVE SERVICE' Honour Envelope to Forth, Tasmania with '4TH AUST INF/BGDE/10-X-15/ FIELD/PO' cds, on arrival Launceston 'CL2/[crown]/PASSED BY/CENSOR' double-ring cachet in violet applied on face, minor blemishes. [Enclosed letter headed "Gallipoli Peninsula/Oct 8th 1915" mentions "...just now we are out of the trenches for a spell after a month of them" and rather ironically predicts "... the job [will be] finished so far as the Eastern Front is concerned ..." and "We will all be home for Christmas": the decision to evaculate Gallipoli was made in November 1915 and completed by 20.12.1915, and is considered as tactically the most (only?) successful part of the whole operation; those evacuated spent Christmas on Lemnos Island, Greece]
