1882-1930s General Birdwood correspondence with 1882 Egypt 20m Postal Card to Clifton College from his mother, post WWI items including 1920 Australia 1½d Envelope to Govt House, Wellington & 1932 cover addressed "Please Mr Postman deliver me to General Birdwood who is visiting Western Australia", other covers to India (5, one from eponymously named Birdwood in SA) or Peterhouse College Cambridge (2, one redirected to Deal Castle), and a 1938 card from Peterhouse signed by Birdwood. 1935-1942 collection of 20 hand-illustrated envelopes (12 posted during WWII), all but one addressed to "Tom Whitford" in Springwood (NSW), sent from various NSW locations, the attractively-executed watercolour images include Australian soldiers in uniform all with patriotic captions including "Australia's Tank Corp will be there" & "A Job in Palestine/a Coldstream Guard at Jerusalem", one item (front only) is signed "W. Whitford", others are illustrated with flags or birds, cats & dogs. A most delightful group. (19 covers & 1 front) (Image)

1935 (Apr 10) JB Were oversized printed airmail cover (358x254mm) to England with Roos CofA 10/- pair & single and 5/-, plus 1/- Anzac, 1/6d Hermes pair & 1d green KGV all tied by 'LATE FEE/MELBOURNE' datestamps, 'LATE FEE' boxed cachets in violet, vertical fold clear of the stamps, cover a little battered around the edges with small tears/blemishes affecting the 1/6d pair, the 5/- & one of the 10/- Roos. A most desirable and spectacular franking. [The £1-19-1d franking comprised 1/6d per ½oz airmail x26 plus 1d Late Fee] (Image)
