Cat No:112

1929-30 'AIR MAIL' Overprints Cooke Printings 3d as SG 112 but in unrecorded shades of brown-black & deep dull blue-green block of 10 (5x2) from the base of the sheet with 'JCA' & 'JBC' Monograms, exceptional centring, eleven units are unmounted. Superb! Jerry Blair Certificate (2019) states "The colour is similar to that of the 3d colour error SG 98a" - which we note was from a Cooke printing - & the colour "has not been altered in any way". The colours are the same as the 'JBC' Monogram corner block of 12 that sold at the Prestige auction of 13.6.2009 for $9200.

Michael Parr, in 'Australian Stamps Professional' Vol 12 Issue 5 - copy included - stated that 5 sheets were printed "using the wrong colour", said to be SG 98a, & were retained at the printing office. Parr speculated that these sheets were used for the 'AIR MAIL' overprints, possibly as trials. In any event only a very small number appear to have survived.

Cat No:114c

1929-30 'AIR MAIL' Overprints Ash Printings 3d from a sheet folded before overprinting with '[A]IR MAIL' Vertically on the Reverse SG 114c marginal example from the left of the sheet, Cat £6500. [These errors are discussed by Ray Kelly at page 49 of his monograph. By Kelly's count, 36 stamps across four sheets were similarly affected. While some are not creased, the presence of the fold helps authenticate affected stamps by showing how the error occurred]
