STAMP DUTY: 'STAMP DUTY' on 10/- green & lilac Barefoot #13, excellent centring, minor blemishes, oval 'CANCELLED/ COMPANIES REGISTRATION/OFFICE PAPUA' h/s, grossly undercatalogued at £50. Rare: the first example we have seen. [Absent from Tim Rybak's and Peter Troy's collections]
We have been advised that this & the next lot were issued during the post-WWII Australian Period. However, the cancellation reads 'PAPUA' at the base, which suggests pre-War usage. John Barefoot gives the issue date for the 10/- as 1949 but for the £1 as "c.1939 (?)".
STAMP DUTY: 'STAMP DUTY/£1 £1' on ½d myrtle-green & yellow-green Barefoot #14, oval 'CANCELLED/COMPANIES REGISTRATION/ OFFICE PAPUA' h/s, Cat £250. Very scarce. [Peter Troy's only example - grossly off-centre & unused - sold at the Prestige auction of 28.7.2009 for $1035]
