Cat No:42

New South Wales. 1850-51 Sydney Views. Three Pence. Yellow-green on greyish wove paper, double print, one albino, small to large margins, cancelled by Sydney obliterator, fine. The only recorded example and the most famous error of the Sydney Views. RPSV Certificate (2008). S.G. 42. Photo
Note: This error was first recorded by Robson Lowe in the "London Philatelist" in August 1957. It was caused by two sheets of paper going through the press at one time and both receiving the impression from the plate, only the top sheet receiving the colour. The blank sheet at bottom was then passed through the press for a second time receiving the impression of the stamp in colour. Robson Lowe commented that "this is the first time I have come across such an error among the primitive classic stamps of the British Empire". A copy of the article accompanies the lot.. . provenance:. V.P. Manwood, November 1995 (Image1)

Cat No:259

New South Wales. 1888-89 Centennial 1d. lilac on Stamp Duty paper, an upper left corner pair, the left stamp without watermark, some perfs at top re-inforced, fine mint. S.G. 259. Photo
Note: In late 1888, there was a shortage of Watermark Large Crown/NSW paper and the Government Printer was forced to produce emergency printings of the 1d. and 2d. values on Stamp Duty paper watermarked "NSW". Since the paper was of a different size than that usually encountered, some sheets missed the perforating machine, producing stamps imperforate between stamp and margin. This was part of the printing process and is not considered an error. However, on rare occasions, the paper was mis-placed resulting in stamps in the corner position being printed without watermark.
