1856-60 Small Diadems imperforate colour trial proof with blank 'POSTAGE' & Value Tablets and waxed void corner at L/L in yellow-bistre on ungummed vertically laid paper, truncated at the base (which is often the case with this form of proof) with manuscript "Specimen". Ex John Bell (in a group of four different colours). [Absent from Bill McCredie's collection]
1862-65 De La Rue Watermark '1' 1d dull red & Watermark '2' 2d blue SG 192 both with small sans-serif handstamp (15½x1½mm; Marcus Samuel Type D5), a few trimmed perfs, large-part o.g. Rare. [Bill McCredie's 1d sold for $368 & John Bell's 2d - wrongly identified as Type D2 - sold for $443]
1862-65 De La Rue 2d imperforate plate proof in the issued colour on ungummed unwatermarked paper with manuscript "Specimen", close even margins. Ex Bill McCredie: sold for $536. Chris Ceremuga Certificate states "very rare".
1870 First Specimen Issue complete set of Type 1 (Small Designs) or Type 2 (Large Designs) sans-serif diagonal overprints comprising De La Rue 1d 2d 4d & 10d, and Perkins Bacon 3d 5d 6d 8d 1/- & 5/- Coin, plus extra 6d 8d 10d 1/- & 5/- each stated to have a slightly longer overprint, most without gum, generally fine to very fine. Ex Ray Chapman - on his annotated page - Bill McCredie & John Bell. [John Bell also noted a discrepancy of about ½mm in the length of the overprint. However, we have concluded that the length varied only because of the relative force of application]

1890 Centennial High Values 20/- Governors Perf 12x11 SG 264cb with sans-serif 'SPECIMEN' Type 15 marginal vertical pair from the left of the sheet, full unmounted o.g. Superb! A rare multiple. [This lot also includes the 2/6d Lyrebird with the same overprint, noted by McCredie & Kellow as the only stamp on which Type 15 is found. John Bell's 20/- marginal block of 4 sold for $4660]

1892 Presentation Sheet headed 'SPECIMEN AND REPRINT STAMPS/OF/NEW SOUTH WALES/WITH YEARS OF ISSUE', various issues x33 with various 'SPECIMEN' or 'Specimen' Overprints including Postal Fiscals 5/- & 10/-, Centennials to 20/- & Postage Dues set to 20/-, plus 'REPRINT' Overprints x5 including 5/- Coin & Postal Fiscals £1, all partly affixed or hinged and very fine, the sheet folded to fit on an album page & with some reinforced splitting along the folds, endorsed on the reverse "3.8.92/from John Thurlow" (the NSW Postmaster-General), two days before the official release of the stamps.
