1850 part-entire to "D Ramsay Esq/Dobroyde/Sydney" with a magnificent Sydney Views Earliest Impression 2d deep blue SG 16 (margins good to huge with almost complete outer framelines) tied by light & indecipherable BN of 'BATHURST' (faint b/s), 'SYDNEY/[crown]/MY*9/1850/NEW SOUTH WALES' arrival b/s, reinforced filing folds well clear of the stamp. [David Ramsay first arrived at Sydney in 1820, and permanently in June 1823 where he established the trading business Raine & Ramsay. Dobroyd Farm at Haberfield was a gift from his father-in-law Simeon Lord. The part-letter states "...I trust that it is not true that you have the scarletina [= scarlet fever] at Dobroyde..."
1851 entire letter headed "117 King St east/17th Jany 1851" and signed "William Baker" to the "Post Master/of Gosford" with a superb example of Sydney Views Plate IV 2d ultramarine SG 29 (margins good to large with outer frameline at the base) tied by light bars cancel of Sydney, no arrival b/s.
1888 local usage of Walter Akhurst & Co Printing Works illustrated advertising cover with the firm's details on a 'blackboard' & Centennial 1d affixed alongside what appears to be an advertising label for the firm but which is actually printed on the envelope, Sydney duplex cancel, part of the flap removed otherwise superb! A rare item that, in our opinion, is one of the most outstanding of all Australian advertising covers. [The only other example known to us sold at a Melbourne auction in 2017 for $655]
1889 usage of 1888 Jubilee 3d green Postal Card inscribed 'For UNITED KINGDOM &c/Overland, via Italy.' to Germany with lengthy personal message, 3d green added tied Sydney duplex cancel, Bavarian 'KB BAHNPOST' TPO d/s on face, slight discolouration at edges. [The full 6d pre-UPU letter rate was paid, presumably after the sender was advised at the PO counter that the 2d and 3d treaty postcard rates applied only to items sent to the UK]
1891 stampless linen envelope with printed 'REVENUE REMITTANCE/ ...' address & instructions on the flap to the postmaster in accordance with which the mailbag seal 'POST OFFICE/[crown]/WALCHA' was impressed in wax to seal the flap but broken on opening, 'WALCHA/ NO28/1891/=NSW=' b/s, minor blemishes. A very rare item & the only example we have seen. [There would have been many thousands of these envelopes but almost certainly they were supposed to have been destroyed]
1902 double-rate cover to GB with scarce franking of 8d magenta Lyrebird tied by 'REGISTERED/SYDNEY NSW' cds, oval 'REGISTERED/LONDON' transit & similar Birmingham arrival b/s.
POSTAL CARDS - STAMPED TO ORDER: Arms 1d Printed at Upper-Right & advice for District Superintendent's Office ('THE WILLOWS. Jenolan Caves, via Mt. Victoria...'), a couple of minor blemishes, unused.
POSTMARKS: 'VALLEY HEIGHTS/10AP1906/NSW' (year error for '1907') on PPC to Belgium with 1d tied by BN '856' (rated RRRR), 'NSW/T/5' shield h/s and Belgian 10c Postage Due tied by 'ANVERS' cds, couple of minor blemishes. The Valley PO 1.12.1876; renamed Valley Heights 11.3.1907; closed 30.1.1976.
