1851 part-outer to Scotland with remarkable franking of Sydney Views 3d yellow-green x3 (the first two units a partly severed pair, the first of them damaged at L/L, the R/H unit & the single both with full margins) & bars cancels of Sydney, large-part 'PAID SHIP LETTER/[crown]/OC*18/...' cds in red at lower-left, London transit b/s of 14FE14/1852 & rated "2/8" - which just ties the first stamp - payable on arrival, 'SALTCOATS/FE15/1852' arrival cds unusually on the face, a bit knocked-about and with a horizontal piece reinstated at the base. Not recorded in Ben Palmer's Census of Sydney View covers. [Palmer notes that the ½oz rate was 3d, the 1oz rate was 6d, and the 2oz rate was 2/-. He doesn't identify a 1½oz rate of 9d but we suggest that is exactly the case here. The cover doesn't conform to any of his other rates] [The illustration is above Lot 403]

1855 (Oct 2) entire to Bathurst with marvellous endorsement "Per Clipper Ship/Schomberg from/Liverpool Octr 5 1855", the stamp (an Embossed 1/-) washed-off but the Exeter datestamp largely remains as evidence of the date of posting, Liverpool & Sydney transits and unframed 'BATHURST/JA*2/1856/NSW' arrival b/s, minor blemishes. Ex George Molnar & Floyd Risvold. [One of the most highly prized of the early Australian wrecks. Brian Peace at pages 62-64 (2013) illustrates all five of the recorded "Schomberg" covers, of which this is his #4]
