GERMANY: 1898 (May 14) sextuple-rate cover (reduced above the stamps) with scarce franking of Two Figures 2½d rose-pink strip of 4 & 5d purple-brown tied by poor Brisbane duplexes, Berlin arrival b/s of 20.6.98, ironed-out central horizontal fold.
IRELAND: 1876 (Dec 21) double-rate cover to Dublin endorsed "Via Melbourne & Brindisi" with Chalons 2d pair & 6d x2 tied by very fine Rays '120' (rated RR on Chalons) with 'CAMBOOYA' cds alongside, Brisbane transit b/s & very fine 'TOO LATE.' h/s on the face, some blemishes & stains still attractive.
MAURITIUS: 1904 (Dec 19) cover to Port Louis endorsed "p Messageries Maritimes/Via Melbourne" with Two Corners 2½d rose-pink tied by superb Rays '83' of 'MACKAY' (light cds alongside), Brisbane transit b/s & very fine marine sorter 'LIGNE T/PAQ FR No 3' d/s, 'MAURITIUS/JA22/92' arrival b/s, minor repaired tear at upper-left.
SCHLESWIG: 1898 (Apr 26) cover to a Danish resident of "Rorkjar/pr Tonder/Schleswig" with ½d & 2d tied by Brisbane duplex, overall soiling. One of the great destinations. [For the entire 19th century, Schleswig was subject to competing claims from Denmark & Germany. The matter was finally settled by the 1920 Plebsicite which resulted in partition, the northern sector going to Denmark, the areas south of Tonder going to Germany]
UNITED STATES: 1895 (Nov) cover to Maryland with Void Background ½d 1d x3 & 2d tied by very fine Rays '171' (rated R) of Tinana, 'REGISTERED/TINANA' h/s & 'REGISTERED/MARYBOROUGH' cds b/s, Baltimore arrival b/s, small corner defect & opened-out for display. [Tinana is 250km due N of Brisbane. Today it is a suburb of Maryborough]
