RARE ELIHU BURRITT "[DOVE]/BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS" ANTI-CRIMEAN WAR PICTORIAL COVER; 31 Jan. 1855 usage of this rare smaller size envelope (printed by Valentine & Co.?; red offset of London transit mark affects address area) from Birkenhead to Kent with 4-margin Imperf. 1d Red cancelled by a very fine Birkenhead "74" Numeral; the stamp is not tied but clearly belongs as both stamp and cancel were placed at the extreme top right to avoid the design with the 'tie' of the cancel therefore going off the edge. Very few examples of this envelope have been recorded but all appear to have been used during the Crimean War period. They were used by Elihu Burritt's Olive Leaf Society.
