1900 CANADIAN CONTINGENT SOUTH AFRICA, Cape-Town Canadian Postal Corps red oval transit h/s dated MAY15-1900 (Bailey & Toop #M2-3 RF-E), this is the rarest of the 3 Contingent hand stamps since by mid-1900 most Canadian soldiers mail was routed through the British post office at Durban and Port-Elizabeth, on a letter from Canadian Private Roberts of the First Contingent Company-A), posted at the British Army Field Post Office on MAY 12th with a British 1d stamp paying the soldiers letter rate, addressed to his father c/o Randolph Stuart at the Greenwood-City mining town noting a Greenwood-BC receiver b/s on JUN14-1900, Stuart owned the mining camp at Long Lake and also held the Calumet-Hecla mining claims that he had sold for $60,000 in OCT-1899, a rare Boer War item with great BC mining town connections, VF est ($375+ US) (Image)
