c.1840-63 LINE ENGRAVED COVERS/WRAPPERS: A small box containing an accumulation of mostly commercial mail incl. Jul. 1840 EL from Sheffield to London bearing unplated 3 margin 1d black (ME) and Nov. 1840 EL ex London to Sheffield with 2 margin 1d black (EK) tied by red MX, also having wafer seal on reverse. Also a batch of c. 32 single sheet commercial invoices, all dated 1863 and majority franked by either 2d blue or 1d red pair, some with addl. 1d red where redirection has occurred. All appear to between the same two companies. Lot also incl. c.1854-77 accumulation of 1d red 'stars' & 'plates' frankings on c.100 commercial envs. to Sheffield and a group of c.20 1d pink envs. with numeral cancels. 1840 1d BLACKS & PERFORATED 1d REDS ON COVER: A binder containing part of a family correspondence (no contents), the great majority addressed to Mr J Campbell-Foster QC or Lady Caroline Barrington (nee Grey). The 1d blacks (4 envs. plus 1 front) dated Dec. 1840 or Jan. 1841, all the adhesives, either 3 or 4 margin, tied by red MXs, 3 of the envs. also with "Alnmouth/Penny Post" marks and signed by Lord Grey. Also, c.85 envs. with 1d red 'stars' or 'plates' frankings, mostly duplex types, from various locations. Mostly good to fine.
