1854-1866 Group of 11 Lithographs, an 1854 2a. green and 1866 Provisional, with seven singles ½a. blue (Die I and III, various shades), three singles 1a. red (Die I-III, shades), 2a. green, 4a. blue & red (2nd print, with diamond of dots and part red cds, cut-to-shape) and 1866 6a. purple (tall ovpt.), all used with various cancellations incl. numerals, diamonds of dots in green and black or by manuscript, several stamps with faults others good to fine. 1854 Litho 1a. dull red and typo 2a. green used on small cover from Myrzapore to London 'Via Bombay & Southampton - August 3rd' (endorsed in m/s), tied by indistinct diamond handstamp in black and "Stamped" in m/s, noted 'Stamped to Bombay' and bearing red "MYRZAPORE/4/AUG./1855" c.d.s., red "INDIA" in oval and charge mark on front, "BOMBAY G.P.O./AU 11/1855" transit cds in black and red London '24 Sep 55' arrival datestamps on the reverse. Adhesives with close to touched margins, the 2a. with a very short tear and light horiz. crease at top left, and the cover roughly opened with a short tear at top and into back-flap. However, an attractive cover with a nice franking from the Ganges eastwards through the country to Bombay and to London via Aden etc. (Image)

1855 Lithographed 4a. pale blue & pale red, two singles from 4th printing, used on cover from Mirzapore to London 'Via Bombay & Southampton - March 12' (endorsed in m/s), both tied by numeral "186", red boxed "INDIA/PAID" and red London 'PAID 24 AP 1856' arrival c.d.s. alongside, red "MIRZAPORE/12/MAR/1856" despatch datestamp and black Bombay transit dater on the reverse. Both stamps have been cut-to-shape, and both lightly stained, but still an attractive cover from the bank of the Ganges. (Image)

India - 1861 Forwarded letter from Calcutta to Ferdinand Schiller in HAMBURG, Germany via Trieste, "FORWARDED BY/JOHN BORRADAILE & Co./CALCUTTA" (large oval handstamp in blue on reverse, in use only from 1859 to 1861), franked with India 1855 8a. carmine on bluish glazed paper tied by "CALCUTTA/JU 22/61"-"1" duplex, boxed "INDIA PAID" in red, large "8" in m/s and handstamp "6" alongside, "HAMBURG/26 7/5-6" arrvial cds and note "Zu Hause alles wohl!" in m/s on the reverse. (Note: The 8a. adhesive = 1s. paying the British ship rate Calcutta-Alexandria where the letter was transferred to Austrian Lloyd ship to Trieste, and from there overland through Austria, charged "6" Kronen). ÷ 1861 Weitergeleiteter (Forwarded) Brief aus Calcutta, Indien an Ferdinand Schiller in HAMBURG via Triest, mit großem, blauem Ovalstempel "FORWARDED BY JOHN BORRADAILE & Co.
