The stamp with usual cracks and minor marginal chippings but still a good example of this scarce stamp on an original part cover. The postmark indicates the original use of this stamp, which is difficult (or impossible) for most of the Scinde Dawks. 1854/1855: Two singles of lithographed 4a. deep blue & red, 4th printing, on entire letter from Calcutta to Réunion 'Via Ceylon' and Mauritius, cancelled with two stikes of diamond of dots, red '22 Sep. 1855' despatch cds (somewhat indistinct) along with St. Denis arrival cds on reverse, large "PACKET LETTER MAURITIUS..." double-oval d/s along with blue sender oval and red boxed "PAID" on face. The cut-to-shape adhesives with partially cut outer framelines, but still good and fresh, addressee's name was cut off, and added later, otherwise a fine and attractive letter franked for normal British shipping rate (1/- or 8 Annas). 1859, Forwarded entire letter from Calcutta to New York 'Per "Candia" (P&O steamer) via Marseilles', franked with 1855 8a. on bluish paper, and 1856 ½a., 1a. and 2a. all tied/cancelled by "B/1" octogonal h/s, bearing "G.P.O./EX/CALCUTTA/JU.3/1859" double-ring d/s in red (Proud G25, in use 1859-63) on reverse, and on front with fine strike of "FORWARDED BY/ATKINSON TILTON & Co./CALCUTTA" oval (in use 1855-62), boxed INDIA PAID in red, red London transit cds and black 'July 26' New York arrival cds. (x2) for double rate, all bearing "BOMBAY/INDIA PAID ..."-"1" duplex datestamp and arrival cds, few minor imperfections, but still an attractive and interesting quartet. 1867/1871: Two cover from Poona, with 1867 cover sent to GUERNSEY, Channel Islands 'Via Marseilles', franked with watermarked 8p., 2a. and 1866 4a. all tied with Poona-"52" duplex, transit and arrival cds's on back, and 1871 cover (opening faults) to Torquay bearing 1868 8a. carmine tied by similar duplex, boxed "1st. 1866 Provisionals 6a. purple horizontal pair, ovpt. POSTAGE (Type 15) in green, with green guide lines at top and bottom, along with two singles 8p. on piece, cancelled by 'Stamped' in m/s and small "BOMBAY INDIA PAID/OC 15/66" double-ring datestamp. 1873: QV ½a. blue, Die II, left hand marginal block of 24 (8x4), ELEPHANT WATERMARK INVERTED, mint never hinged, folded horiz. between (few perfs separated at right), few very slightly toned patches on original gum, still fresh and fine. 1911/22 - Three KGV. varieties: 1911 3p. 'Rs' flaw on centre stamp of top marginal strip of three (mnh), "PIES PIES" error on 1921 9p. on 1a.
