THE RARE SO-CALLED 'ALDERNEY' OR 'CHANNEL IS' CROSS ON 1843 COVER - Nov. 1843 part E (front and top flap, relatively minor soiling) to Eton College, Windsor apparently from the Channel Islands as endorsed 'By private Steamer' and with part "SOUTHAMPTON/SHIP LETTER" (Robertson type S12) on the flap, franked with a virtually four margin 1d red, FL plate 35 showing tiny part inscription, tied by a very fine strike of this very distinctive Maltese Cross; London transit and WINDSOR cds both on the flap.
