1897, to Mengtsz/Yunnan from H. I. Japanese consulate: 1883, QV 2 C. carmine (3 inc. pair) tied "HONG KONG E JU 21 97" to consular cover w. header "H.I.J.M.s' CONSULATE. HONGKONG." endorsed "Via Tonkin" to "Mc. Callum c/o Imperial Chinese Customs Mengtzu" (Mengtsz, Mongtze). On reverse two paper seals bilingual "H. I. JAPANESE CONSULATE * HONGKONG*". Transits "HAIPHONG", "HANOI" and "LAOKAY 30 JUIN 97". Cover vert. crease not affecting stamps and some blemishes, scarce rate and route to Yunnan via French Indochina. (Image)

1926, KGV $3 single frank tied "HONG KONG AIR MAIL 20 AP 37 (8)" to registered FFC for PanAm HK-San Francisco by Clippers, to New Orleans with May 7 backstamp. Also oval "Fleet Mail Office 28 APR 19376 Hong Kong". Envelope bit unevenly opened, but complete. (Image)

1910, 2 $ carmine-red and black KEVII, sound perforation and fresh colour, perfect s.o.n. cds HANKOW A, NO.28.11. SUPERB condition! This stamp is unlisted in the 'Treaty Ports' special section of the SG catalogue. Very rare, signed Emilio Diena. (Image)

1881, 5 c. handstamp mystery: "ONE CENT" on 4 C., uncancelled with unclear origin but "HONG KONG DE 10 81" dater alongside imprint and addressed to Rev. Reusch of Basel Mission/Hong Kong. Message on reverse has no placename or dateline.
- Over the QV imprint is diagonally stamped "5c" (Proud fig. A41, with one 5.5.1884 record). Proud lists them under "Accountancy" markings of the Hong Kong General Post Office. See also Web p. 147. Blue crayon writing, merely address transcription or postage due hint? Definitely requires research. (Image)
