1850, entire folded letter to Aberdeen/Scotland endorsed "Via Marseilles" and rated "4/6" which was double weight rate. On reverse readable dispatch dater "HONG KONG AUG 19 1850", London transit Oct. 19 and Aberdeen next day arrival. The 4/6 rate covered the British Colonial rate of 12d per 1/2 oz = 2/-, Mediterranean charge of 5d per 1/2 oz = 10d and French transit cost of again 5d per 1/4 oz = 1/8d. - Addressee Captain Forbes was the skipper of several opium clippers. Letter contents refers to remittances of £7,500 for sale of his property in Shanghai. Transit time 63 days.
