Advanced Collection of BRADFORD Squared Circle Postmarks, 1887 to 1905, with some written up on pages and others loose, we counted a total of 523 covers or cards, with a wide variety of time marks, hammer types, usages (including to, through and from), frankings as well as destinations such as Canada, Austria, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, etc. Many items have pencil notations as per the time marks, some ERD or LRD, etc. A nice lot, with better than average quality of the postmarks, overall fine or better with a few faults and some stamps or pieces not counted. We note a lovely 1900 strike on an uprated UPU postcard from Haiti. CALL LANE B.O. / LEEDS a very fine despatch strike H / MY 5 / 92 on a registered cover to Halifax, with oval Leeds datestamp on front and MY 6 oval Halifax receiver on back. One of the "lonely greats", this hammer was attributed a rarity factor of 500 in the Handbook, with only one reported strike. This is thus the only second known example (and a great one at that), and no reports have been made in either of the four Supplements. A very fine and desirable cover. (Image)
