1880 2sh brown Queen Victoria Sperati Forgery, a nicely done reproduction of this stamp, made on genuine watermarked (Spray of Rose) paper, with a genuine cancel and perforations. Jean de Sperati was an expert at using a genuine low value stamp from the same issue and removing the printed design, then printing his own design so as to retain the original watermarked paper, postmark and perforations. Unfortunately the stamp is very discoloured, still a rare item by the master Forger. Scott catalogue value for genuine would be $3,750. Accompanied by a 2017 RPSL certificate. Another example of this forgery sold by our firm in 2018 for $1,380 (including premium). (Image)
