1840 (Jan 10) entire (usual folds) written by Mr W Hone posted to his daughter on the first day of the Uniform 1d Post with unframed two-line 'Fleet St/1d PAID' lightly struck in black over double frame Tombstone 'C/PAID/10JA10/1840' in red, on the back an mss '2' (in error?). Mr Hone's message to his daughter includes "I write . . . to send you a penny post letter. . ." Can't be anything but rare. [Includes biographical information about Mr W Hone, a substantial man of his times] (Image1)

1840 (Oct 7) 4d prepaid entire (red mss '4') from London to Exeter. Re-addressed to Totnes where (Oct 8) 2d blue plate 1 pair [KH-KI] has been affixed and cancelled with Exeter red Maltese Cross. Cat £3,000 just as a use of the red MC on cover. A few minor faults, quite an unusual cover. (Image1)
