Postal History: 1909-50s group inc PPC Pacific Cable Station Fanning Island with NZ 1d tied by 'Fanning Island 14 DE 09' cds, 1950 OHMS covers (3), inc 1½d pr tied by 'Sydney Island PO G & EIC 4 V 39' m/s cancel to Fiji & 2 franked USA stamps tied by 'Honolulu Hawaii 1950 Naval Mail Branch' pmks - endorsed as from a plantation manager & the Administrative Officer, both on Christmas Is & carried by US Navy. Also 1951 stampless cover with 'Christmas Island 17 JUL 51' cds & taxed with Postage Due 2d tied by 'Fanning Island 18 JUL 51' cds (SG cat £125+ on cover), plus 1942-43 use of USA 9c Reply Coupon from San Francisco to Fanning Is & finally the "Western Pacific High Commission Gazette' of 8 June 1957 with various appointments announced, plus 3+ pages of all current postal rates. 1942 Evacuation cover franked Pictorial 2d tied by 'Gilbert & Ellice Islands Colony Tarawa 2 JA 42', to Fiji, with 3-line cachet 'Launch Mail from territory pro tem enemy occupied V!V' with Suva arrival b/s. Prepared when some locals departed during Japanese occupation, with 1951 letter from the person who prepared them explaining the circumstances, also the 2/- cover to England that contained the letter. All VF. Extremely rare. (3) (P)
