Cat No:3 $750

1914 (July 16) Maurice Guillaux promotional postcard numbered '1871' featuring aviator & plane and advertising Shell Benzine, flown Melbourne to Sydney with message dated "Thursday Morning/Nine O'Clock/16th July", franked with Kangaroos ½d green tied 'AUSTRALIAN/MELBOURNE/16-JUL-1914/VIC/AERIAL MAIL' oval d/s in violet plus another fine strike alongside and 2½d blue tied by apparently the same d/s unusually struck in black, 'SYDNEY / 330P 18JL14 / 64' arrival cds, AAMC #3 $750, minor creasing & edge faults. The AAMC does not mention the d/s - called a 'cachet' - struck in any colour other than violet, and this is the first instance we have seen of it struck in black. M Guillaux departed Melbourne at 9.12am on 16.7.1914 and arrived in Sydney at 2.50pm on 18.7.1914.

Cat No:3

1914 illustrated postcard for Maurice Guillaux's Melbourne-Sydney flight AAMC #3, sent unstamped with the Melbourne oval flight d/s of 16-JUL-1914 in violet & 'T2D'-in-oval h/s, Sydney arrival cds of 18JL14 partly obscured by Postage Due 1d x2 that were not cancelled, the only unpaid example we have seen that was definitely carried by Guillaux and thus the only example with Postage Dues, somewhat the worse for wear but quite presentable. [The card is also unusual for being addressed back to Victoria, to Ballarat]
