1920-22 KGV Single Watermark 1d violet block of 4 with 'PARKVILLE/10FE22/VIC.' cds applied centrally (not tied), 2d orange block of 4 with two 'PARKVILLE/5OC20/VIC.' cds applied centrally (not tied) & 2d red two horizontal pairs each tied by 'PARKVILLE/20FE22/VIC.' cds, all on plain unaddressed covers (the last with a small closed tear) presumably prepared as First Day Covers and attributed to the famous collector Dr WP Heslop, from whose estate similar covers are known. The ACSC now provides the following 'Date of Issue' information: 1d violet ACSC 76 "12 February 1922. A cover dated 13 February 1922 cancelled at Red Hill (Qld) is endorsed 'first day cover'"; this refers to Arthur Gray's sold at our auction of 30.10.2015 for $4522 (no FDC listed); 2d orange ACSC 95 "previously ... given as 4 October 1920, but several examples with dates in September 1920 have now been reported" (no FDC listed); 2d red ACSC 96 "19 January 1922" (no FDC listed). Due to a lack of any further provenance, this lot is offered strictly 'as is' with a nominal estimate.
1922 KGV Single Watermark 4d pale blue single ACSC 112 (SG 65) tied by very fine 'PARKVILLE/ 21MR22/VIC.' cds to plain unaddressed cover, endorsed "Ros. April 12' [Rosenblum] at L/L in pencil, a couple of tiny blemishes. The ACSC does not record any First Day Cover known, and states "The first printing was made in February 1922 ... the earliest recorded date of use being 23 March 1922". Attributed to the famous collector Dr WP Heslop, from whose estate similar covers are known. The endorsement refers to Alec Rosenblum 'Stamps of the Commonwealth of Australia' (Sixth Ed, 1966), which states (p165) that "the new stamp was issued on April 12, 1922". We are unable to confirm that the annotation is in Heslop's hand, and due to a lack of any further provenance, this item is offered strictly 'as is' with a nominal estimate.
1923 KGV Single Watermark 1½d green block of 4 with superb 'PARKVILLE/7MR23/VIC.' cds applied centrally (not tied) on plain unaddressed cover ACSC 88y (SG 61), endorsed "Rosenblum 8/3" at L/L in pencil, Cat $10,000. Attributed to the famous collector Dr WP Heslop, from whose estate similar covers are known. The ACSC states (footnote 4) that "At present, only one first day cover can be traced", which refers to Arthur Gray's registered cover - a few blemishes - dated '6MR23' (day before issue) sold at our auction of 30.10.2015 for $4370. A similar cover to the one here - bearing a pair of the stamps tied by the same Parkville cds - sold at Philas Auctions (Sydney) on 17.9.2022 for $5520 (stated there to be unique). The endorsement refers to Rosenblum 'Stamps of the Commonwealth of Australia' (Sixth Ed, 1966), which states (p124) "the new colour did not appear until March 8, 1923". We are unable to confirm that the annotation is in Heslop's hand, and due to a lack of any further provenance, this item is offered strictly 'as is' with a nominal estimate.
1924 Kangaroos Third Watermark 2/- Maroon ACSC 38 (SG 74) tied by very fine 'PARKVILLE/1MY24/VIC.' cds & KGV Single Watermark 1d green block of 4 with the cds applied centrally (not tied) on plain unaddressed cover ACSC 77y (SG 76), Cat $7,500 for the KGV 1d green FDC. The ACSC states in relation to the KGV 1d green that "Two first day covers have been recorded" (one of which is Arthur Gray's cover sold at our auction of 30.10.2015 for $4760) without mentioning any combined cover with other values, and in relation to the Kangaroo 2/- maroon only that was issued on 1.5.1924 (with no FDC listed). Gibbons states that an example of the latter is known used on 29.4.1924, but provides no further information. Attributed to the famous collector Dr WP Heslop, from whose estate similar covers are known. Due to a lack of any further provenance, this item is offered strictly 'as is' with a nominal estimate.

May 1924' [Rosenblum] at L/L in pencil, Cat $10,000 each. The ACSC states in relation to the 1½d red that "Four first day covers have been recorded. There are two in the ... Australia Post archival collection" and of the 2d brown that "Two first day covers have been recorded". Neither entry mentions a combined cover with both values. Attributed to the famous collector Dr WP Heslop, from whose estate similar covers are known. We are unable to confirm that the endorsement is in Heslop's hand, and due to a lack of any further provenance, this item is offered strictly 'as is' with a nominal estimate.

The ACSC states that "Three first day covers are recorded ... [each bearing both stamps] ... One is in the ... Australia Post archival collection". Attributed to the famous collector Dr WP Heslop, from whose estate similar covers are known. Due to a lack of any further provenance, this item is offered strictly 'as is' with a nominal estimate.
