Falkland Islands Dependencies: South Georgia: 1913 (Dec. 11) photographic picture postcard of Leith Harbour (Heyburn BK-1-k) sent in package, the card bearing 1904-12 1d. on picture side tied by SG1 c.d.s. and thus correctly franked but sent unaddressed with seasonal greetings message from Ray Hardy. Ex Riddell-Carre. Photo. In 1899 the Dean of the Falkland Islands had been rebuked by Postmaster Charles Hill after receiving a package from West Falkland containing four letters without prepaid postage. Hardy was likely present on the island partly in connection with the Heyburn "U" series of postcards issued in 1914. (Image1)

Falkland Islands Dependencies: South Georgia: 1945 (Jan. 11) censored commercial cover from William Bonner (endorsement on flap) to T.W. Binnie at Port Stanley franked unoverprinted Falklands 1d. tied by SG5 c.d.s. with straight line "Passed Censor" handstamp in violet (type a2 with upright "P") below, backstamped Jan. 17 arrival. Ex Cottis. Photo. On Feb 24 1944 a special concession was granted to members of Operation Tabarin members for the use of the overprinted stamps for the South Georgia Dependency on their personal mail ahead of their departure for Stanley at the end of the first season. The overprinted stamps had been available for general use from Apr. 3 1944 but Falkland Islands stamps also remained valid for postage at this time. Though not an official member of the Operation, nor a crew member of the "Fitzroy", Bonner served as a Wireless Operator at Grytviken from Feb. 1943 until Jan. 1946. (Image1)
