Falkland Islands Dependencies: Graham Land: 1944 Overprints, 1/2d. block of four, 1d. vertical pair, 2d. and 3d. vertical strip of three, all cancelled by fair to fine strikes of “FIELD POST OFFICE/A/28 NO/45/17” c.d.s., mainly fine and most unusual. These cancellations appear to be of genuine type and it is suggested that they may have been applied on arrival at the request of the recipient, F.P.O. 17 being at this time in operation in Italy. The Heijtz catalogue notes that “FIELD POST OFFICE” No. 17, No. 45 and No. 642 datestamps have been recorded on Falkland Islands and Dependencies stamps. They are forgeries or at best done to order and never were used in the Islands” (see p. 187). Photo. (Image1)
