1917 (Oct 24) Registered cover to London headed "On Active Service" bearing Rhodesia Double Head 1/2d + Admiral 1d and 21/2d cancelled by two strikes of "ARMY POST OFFICE / 2 / NORTHERN RHODESIA" c.d.s with light "PASSED BY CENSOR / NO 26" with central "anchor" initialled "adms" in ink, blue crayon "R228 KASANGA E.A", backstamped at Broken Hill (Nov 16), Abercorn (Oct 25) and London, flap missing, otherwise fine and rare. A virtually identical cover with registration number 227 is known sent by the same person to the same family on this very day; these two covers are the only known registered items with an A.P.O Northern Rhodesia c.d.s, the number 2 c.d.s being rare in its own right (with just six other examples recorded by Pennycuick). A superb cover. Photo on Inside Back Cover (Image1)
