ASHBURTON - VERY EARLY MANUSCRIPT "MISSENT" MARKING ON COVER EX LONDON; Lengthy 27/28 Mar. 1763 EL (few minor closed flap tears do not detract) from London (good personal contents) to Tiverton endorsed "Single Sheet" and so charged "4[d]" with a fine "28/MR" Bishop Mark on the flap but also having a very clear endorsement "Mifst. to Ashburton" alongside. Very few British letters dated before 1780 are recorded with any kind of Missent markings (the first handstruck type was introduced in the 1790s) and so this is a rare survival.
