United Kingdom. Great Britain "model token"/toy money: 'Model Crown' by Hyams, 1848, VF; silver and gilt plated; size: 2.65cm; weight: 8g. Obverse depicts left facing bust of Queen Victoria and date in exergue in Roman numerals. Reverse bears emblems of the United Kingdom in center with "Model Crown" above and H. Hyams name below. These tokens were originally designed and engraved in Birmingham by Joseph Moore as a proposal for lightweight coins, and became popular among the general public. This specific type was minted ("published") by Hyam Hyams, a Jewish London goldsmith, watch and clock maker, and money changer.
