British Guyana, 1856, 4 c., black on ROSE-magenta, Type 3, initials of postal clerk
Wight EDW, cut octagonally, with close to clear margins in other
respects, THE OSCAR A. SCHENCK cover front endorsed P MAIL at upper
left to Plantation Foulis/Berbice, with a neat strike of
DEMERARA/11 July 1856 ds, with a surprisingly light shade which
could be easily classified as rose-carmine, the 4 cents
rose-carmine (SG 25) does not exist on cover, this in between shade
is very special and unique key item and a must-have in every
high-end collection, this cover front sold 2014 at David Feldman
for a price of 116,000 Euro incl. the commission, ex Schenck/Harmer
Rocke/1951 and John E. du Pont, cert BPA, XF! Estimate 110.000€. (Image)

British Guyana, 1856, 4 c., black on blue glazed surface-coloured, initials of
postal clerk Wight EDW, cut octagonally, with good even margins,
showing a neat strike of A 8 C/Arabian Coast/January 1857 ds, with
the minor surface blemishes mentioned for full accuracy, are
characteristic for this issue and of no relevance, there are only
six recorded used cut octagonally examples known, this is the
finest copy, four other having faults or being repaired, SG
£150,000 +, this stamp sold 2014 at David Feldman for a price of
183.000 Euro incl. the commission, ex John E. du Pont, cert BPA,
