Barbados. 1840 (8 Nov.) soldier's entire letter "from Robert Smith, Private 52 Regt." to Lichfield, Staffs., rated "Pd1" and countersigned by the Commanding Officer of the 6th. Regiment; the contents refer to "many deaths in the regiment", the General, monthly salary of £1, wishing to purchase his discharge for £10 and horse racing, etc.; accompanied by a 1971 letter from the Headquarters of the Light Division explaining the movements of the 52nd. Regiment in the West Indies. A few faults though a scarce concessionary rate cover. Photo
