POSTAL HISTORY: 1916 cover to "Dr GA MacDonald", London with KGV 1d red plus 1d carmine overprinted 'WAR STAMP' both tied by faint 'BARROUALLIE/SP 20/16/ST VINCENT BWI' cds with another clearer strike alongside, GPO transit b/s, the stamps overstruck by 'KENSINGTON/31 OC/16' arrival d/s where the item was re-addressed to the doctor at the "Royal Naval Auxilliary Hospital, Dungavel, Strathaven, Lanarkshire" in Scotland, light central fold and a couple of minor blemishes. The regular 1d paid the Empire letter rate, the overprint paid the tax in aid of funding the war effort.
